Book: Truly Devious

Author: Maureen Johnson

Genre: YA Thriller/Mystery

What it's about: Ellingham Academy is an infamous private school in the heart of Vermont. Founded by a wealthy tycoon for the smartest kids in the country, it was a coveted spot for all. However, Ellingham’s wife and daughter were kidnapped, and the only clue was a riddle signed “Truly, Devious.” Their disappearance remained unsolved for decades. Years later, Stevie Bell has been selected to attend the academy, and she is determined to solve the case. She has to balance her new life and the unique people she is surrounded by while another murder is underway

Let's talk about it: For anyone looking for a dark academia book with a murder mystery tied into it, this is the exact book I would recommend. It is the first book of a series, and while I have yet to reach the sequels, this book was still amazing. It blends A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson and The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Stevie is an amazing main character, and it was so nice to see someone who was so dedicated to her passion, and I supported most of her actions, which can be exceptionally difficult in most thriller books. I think the only way to get the full experience of this book is to read it during the autumn season. Happy reading!
