OverDrive/Libby Security Warning
After September 30, 2021, the web certificate provider Let's Encrypt will no longer support some older operating systems and browsers (learn more). Let's Encrypt certificates are used to create secure connections on many websites and apps, including those from OverDrive. This internet-wide security change can be resolved by updating your operating system or browser version.
What this means for you
Most of us will probably be unaffected by the change but anyone running an iPhone or iPad using iOS 9 or earlier will see a security warning or a "your connection is not private" message when using Libby, the OverDrive app, or your library's OverDrive website. You will see this warning on other websites that use Let's Encrypt as well.
If you continue despite the security warning, your data could be compromised since Overdrive can’t verify that users seeing the message are connecting with a legitimate server.
Here's what you can do
If you encounter this warning you should update your operating system or browser version (if an update is available).
All Apple devices that were released after 2012 can update to iOS 10 or newer, which will work after this change. Here are instructions for updating your operating system. If you need further assistance, please contact the library.
