successor to our nine year old Galaxy system, will begin operation on
There are new ways to search the catalog -- the main ones are by keyword or browse.
The KEYWORD search is similar to most Internet searches. It searches for matches to the word or words (in any order) you type in the "keyword search for" box. You will often want to narrow your search to a single field specified in the drop down "Search by" box, such as AUTHOR, TITLE or SUBJECT.
The BROWSE search
is the most similar to the previous system.
Type the search text and select a library catalog index to browse for the text you typed. The search results list displays the area of the index beginning with text that most closely matches the text you typed. You can browse through other areas of the index.
You might choose a browse search when you are not sure how to spell the search word. You can type just the first few letters of the word and then browse the appropriate index. When you browse the Subject index, you may find cross-references that can lead you to related subjects.
